The HI halo of NGC 2403

چکیده
The position-velocity diagram along the major axis of the Sc galaxy NGC 2403 shows the presence of gas with anomalous velocities (see Fig. 3 of the paper by Sancisi et al., this conference). This is the signature of an extended, slower rotating HI halo surrounding the thin disk (Schaap et al., 2000) We have isolated the ‘anomalous gas’ in NGC 2403 by fitting a Gaussian line profile to the thin disk and subtracting it from the data. .

Expanding HI shells in NGC 2403 : First results from an automated object recognition packageDavid
We have developed an automated package of object recognition software to detect and accurately characterize expanding HI supershells in nearby spiral galaxies. Our method avoids the ambiguity associated with visually identifying complex, expanding structures in spectral line datacubes. In this pilot study, an analytic expression for the time evolution of a supershell is used to derive the appro...

متن کامل2 00 1 A new , kinematically anomalous H I component in the spiral galaxy NGC 2403
We discuss new, high sensitivity H I observations of the spiral galaxy NGC 2403 which show extended emission at anomalous velocities with respect to the ‘cold’ disk. This ‘anomalous’ gas component (∼ 1/10 of the total H I mass) is probably located in the region of the halo and rotates more slowly (∼ 20−50 km s) than the gas in the disk. Moreover, it shows a distortion in the velocity field that...
متن کاملMulti - method - modeling of interacting galaxies . I . A unique scenario for NGC 4449 ?
NGC 4449 is an active star-forming dwarf galaxy of Magellanic type. From radio observations, van Woerden et al. (1975) found an extended HI-halo around NGC 4449 which is at least a factor of 10 larger than the optical diameter D25 ≈ 5.6 kpc. Recently, Hunter et al. (1998) discerned details in the HI-halo: a disc-like feature around the center of NGC 4449 and a lopsided arm structure. We combine...
متن کاملA low - mass HI companion of NGC 1569 ?
High-sensitivity maps of the large-scale structure of atomic hydrogen in the starburst dwarf galaxy NGC 1569 show evidence for an HI cloud with a mass of 7 · 10 6 M ⊙ , at a projected distance of 5 kpc from the parent galaxy. This cloud may be a condensation in a low-column-density HI halo or a companion galaxy/HI-cloud. NGC 1569 and its companion are connected by a low surface brightness HI br...
